Clowns

Based on the short story Ciudad de Payasos by Peruvian-American writer Daniel Alarcón, Payasos tells the story of Chino, a young journalist who, after the death of his father, takes refuge in the world of street clowns.

Origin

The world is turning, the worst in humanity is coming to pass. No one knows what's going on, but speculations goes on. Single mother Brittany struggles in her everyday life, trying to balance raising her children and being a nurse. Dedicated to both she is always making sacrifices. As she gets ready to go to work at a nearby hospital, strange things start happening a little to close to home. People are getting sick with a highly contagious virus of unknown origin that turns people into aggressive killers. The hospital is packed and as the hours go by, the disease progresses until the hospital becomes the epicenter. Brittany barely escapes with her life, and with the help of a small group of patriots, she must fight her way back home and rescue her young children if they are still alive.

Smoker of the Future

This anti-smoking public information film has the kind of stylistic sheen often associated with 1980s British advertising, with its sci-fi setting, filtered smoke and gloomy aesthetics clearly inspired by the works of Ridley Scott (although it’s directed by his contemporary, Barry Myers). It imagines a genetically advanced future humanoid who’s evolved to be a ‘natural born smoker’ – complete with enlarged nostrils and tapping finger - before reminding us that no such creature yet exists. While we expect smoking adverts to be disturbing, the titular character is disquieting in a refreshingly unusual sense.
