It is based on childhood memories of a renowned Mozambican artist Fiel dos Santos who grew up during the 16-year civil war – another proxy war sustained by conflicting foreign powers. Fiel created eight figures representing his father, mother, five brothers and sister from decommissioned AK-47s. Three New York artists turned them into puppets and animated. Little Fiel tells a universal story of peaceful people who have been coerced, conscripted and enticed into killing each other. It is our desperate act of hope.

Combining traditional and computer animation (one of the first to use it!), Peter Foldes, through clever metamorphosing images and powerful line drawings, provides a moralistic tale of one man’s enormous appetite and selfish consumerism. Growing more corpulent and repulsive, his indigestion leads to a nightmare where he is consumed in a hell of emaciated bodies. By extension, this film indicts affluent nations and individuals in a world where many starve.

Arnie, the blustering, brow-beating dog, is continually out-smarted by a parasitic flea, Birnie. Tired of Birnie using his body as a bed and breakfast, Arnie tries to put an end to Birnie, over and over again. Windlight uses motion capture to block out the overall movement, then animates on top of that data to achieve the more cartoony effects and motion expected of character animation. The result is a hybrid of cartoon gags and subtle human movements.
