When the program moved to 12:37 a.m. ET, the program was expanded to 30 minutes. In 2002, Nightline was ranked 23rd on TV Guide's 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time.

The program ended up profiling enough figures that in 1999, A&E spun it off into an entire network, The Biography Channel.
