Living Lines

Living Lines is a series of performances and poetry by artist Stephanie Trujillo documented as a short film, drawing inspiration from her Peruvian ancestry, namely the Nazca Lines – giant, mysterious and ancient earthworks made by pre-colonial and pre-Christian societies in Peru – to create site-specific rituals dedicated to the flora and fauna native to Merseyside.

Saved by the Lioness

Natural Gods

It’s not non-human animals on display in Korakrit Arunanondchai’s new series — it’s nature itself. This is a nature show about the least natural thing of all: god. For the Darwinist, feelings are just an evolutionary training mechanism, a mere instinctual guide that has come to mean too much. If feelings are evolved, then they are also the voices of all who have come before us, an ancestral language far larger than any one being. There is a deep time to emotion, to our emotions towards other beings, human or otherwise. Natural Gods is a nature show beyond people. It looks at subjectivities that do not resemble our own, imagining an expansive consciousness bigger than individuals, or even entirely different from consciousness as we know it.The time after humans will leave society’s residue to be mined as if of a preternatural force for whomever or whatever comes after. It’s not cute creatures on view, it’s what seeps from spaces between symbols and language and rocks and bodies.

The Veluwe

A film about the Veluwe region of the Netherlands, by the director of the Gemeentelijke Schoolbioscoop in Rotterdam. We see detailed images of villages, towns, moors, streams, ponds, poultry, and sheep farming. Van der Wel shot his own footage (according to the intertitles), but also used existing films. He drew mainly on the ‘city films’ from the catalogue of HAP & BenS. We see, for example, images from the films "Oosterbeek aan den Rijn" and "De Steeg" made by the Arnhem film company AFKO; and from the films made for Haghe Film "From Arnhem en omstreken" to "Barneveld and Elburg", directed by Willy Mullens.

Wolf Law

There is a harsh law in nature - some animals live at the expense of the lives of others. The film tells about the fate of four wolf cubs left without a mother. How their character is formed and skills are acquired. How, by instinct, wolf cubs learn to hunt and survive in the wild, where they have many enemies. The cubs have learned the first lesson that life in a pack is much more reliable than alone. In the course of the film, we follow their short but courageous lives. Our heroes have grown up, but the main law of the wild nature - the war for territory, has become the most difficult for them.

Say Goodbye

Say Goodbye is a 1971 American documentary film about the relationship between humans and nature, directed by David H. Vowell. The film depicts the plight of various animal species at the hands of man and his influence. Some segments include the clubbing of seals on the Pribilof Islands, the effect of DDT on brown pelican populations in Texas, and the plight of severely endangered animals. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.
