May 1945. On the outskirts of Prague, ordinary people meet Soviet soldiers-liberators with tears of joy in their eyes. In the early days of the lull, someone sadly recalls a pre-war life; someone unexpectedly meets his love; someone is returning from enemy dungeons looking hopefully into the future; and someone, having moved from a tank into a Czech tram, warmly recalls his craft as a car driver... These days, all those who survived the Great War fire swear an oath to keep peace on Earth forever, honoring the memory of those who gave their lives for simple human happiness.
Office worker Věra has a big day ahead of her, full of preparations, as her wedding to her boyfriend Zdeněk is coming up. During this time, she has had time to think since morning, and even a small action, a look at a photo or a specific word, can revive memories of what preceded this day in her mind. Immersed in herself, she returns to her relationship with Zdeněk, reflects on her family and her colleagues from the tractor factory where she met Zdeněk. However, these fragments do not evoke a feeling of happiness in her, but rather doubts and bitterness. However, she still hopes that today is the beginning of a new life for her, that everything that was said by her beloved and others will pass away today.
