Earlier this month Adele stopped by a studio in Harlem to perform a six-song set for VH1 Unplugged. We have the song known as “The Contradictions Track,” which is “(You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman,” in advance of the show’s online premiere March 3. It may seem like a dangerous move for any singer to cover Aretha Franklin. Is there a more surefire way to feel inadequate? But Adele smartly introduced the song by saying she wouldn’t attempt to reinterpret it. While we agree with her sentiment (and respect for Aretha), turns out no disclaimer was needed. Listening up-close to Adele’s mellow but true rendition, which required only minimal guitar and keys, it seemed to us there is no one Adele can’t cover with her powerful, nuanced singing.
VOICES was a concert held on February 18th, 2006, at the Pacifico Yokohoma Conference and Convention Center in Japan. It featured vocal arrangements from the Final Fantasy series, including an acapella doo-wop medley, orchestral versions of the series' ballads, and a symphonic metal finale performed by the Black Mages. Zuzana Lapčíková's Christmas jazz project. The Advent and Christmas songs of singer and cimbalom player Zuzana Lapčíková are based on ancient hymnals and orally transmitted melodies. Together with her quintet, however, she transforms them into contemporary, jazz-influenced music that oscillates between genres. On one day during the pre-Christmas period, musicians gathered in the Gothic church of St. Catherine in Šebrov to perform a musical mass for the locals. In an intimate chamber atmosphere, full of silence and humility before the Creator, Zuzana Lapčíková's original project "Panna Marija přečistá" (The Blessed Virgin Mary) resounds.
