Three couples, two already living in Rio; and the third, with 'the one who hates carnival', coming to visit an aunt. One of the women bets that all husbands are unfaithful. They send invitations to their husbands to the carnival ball. They find a pretext to be able to attend. They, in turn, go in disguise, just like the maid. Hence the confusion at the ball, each one dating the other's wife.

Two Stories

One day, he receives a package from his relatives in the north: Maria do Socorro, his goddaughter. Pursuing his dream of working in television, Socorro ends up involving Cacareco in numerous disputes, including fights, robberies, and gambling in an underground casino.

Marcelino, a country bumpkin, comes from the countryside to try his luck in Rio de Janeiro. His uncle Simão, a taxi driver and resident of a favela with Sofia, comes to greet him at the train station. A neighbor, Tereza, takes an interest in the newcomer. At the pier, the criminal Zé receives a package and is pursued by police. Mira Diler performs at the Caverna nightclub. In her dressing room, the criminal Zé is found, injured and without the package. Valentino complains about the police action that is disrupting his "business." Marcelino still hasn't found work; at the same time, he tries unsuccessfully to sell his compositions. He begins helping his uncle as a driver, but puts his own worries first: he goes to the nightclub looking for Mira, but finds himself caught up in Valentino's schemes.

A Dupla do Barulho

Tonico and Tião are two vaudevillian artists who travel across Brazil in search of fame and success. A crisis hits the duo when Tião gets tired of being a setup for Tonico's jokes in their numbers and leaves the troupe.
