Imany à l'Olympia

Imany began her professional life in New York as a model. The events of September 11, 2001, changed everything and forced the Frenchwoman of Comorian origin to string together a series of odd jobs. Tired of that life, a few years later Imany threw herself wholeheartedly into music. It turned out to be a wise choice for the young woman, who can now boast of having composed two albums (The Shape of a Broken Heart in 2011 and The Wrong Kind of War this year) and a film soundtrack (Sous la jupe des filles). Don’t be misled by the ubiquitous remix of Don’t Be Shy: Imany’s music is organic, made of strings and percussion. Deeply influenced by Bob Dylan and Tracy Chapman, the singer speaks to us of love and ideals in her deep, slightly husky voice. THE OPENER is a feel-good, underdog music doc about a street performer who wrote 30 songs in 30 days to process his grief and isolation during the pandemic, and found that his music spoke to millions. When it reached the ears of one of his heroes, Grammy-winner Jason Mraz, he was invited on his very first tour and given a chance to prove himself on the big stage.

Ode to Guy Clark: Steve Earle in Austin, TX

Joined by his long-running five-piece band The Dukes, Earle hit the stage kicking off his Guy Clark tribute with the classic “Dublin Blues,” receiving exuberant cheers at the opening line “Wish I was in Austin.” Earle immediately went into “Texas 1947,” featuring the expert pedal steel work of Ricky Ray Jackson. After sharing a short story about how he met Guy Clark while hitchhiking around Texas, the band performed the ode to the Hill Country honky-tonkin’ queen “Rita Ballou,” featuring Eleanor Whitmore on violin. Following a tale about Clark’s loyalty to Texas BBQ over Tennessee style BBQ, Joe Ely joined Earle on stage to perform “Desperadoes Waiting For a Train” – two Texas music legends trading verses on one of the state’s most influential songs.

In 1987, to capitalize on his growing success in Europe, Prince toured extensively to promote the album of the same name and sales increased accordingly. However, the United States remained resistant to his latest album, and sales began to drop; it was at this point that Prince decided to film a live concert promoting the new material, for eventual distribution to theaters in America. Featuring the band that accompanied Prince on his 1987 Sign o' the Times Tour, including dancer Cat Glover, keyboardist Boni Boyer, bassist Levi Seacer, Jr., guitarist Miko Weaver, drummer Sheila E. and former member of The Revolution keyboardist Dr. Fink, the film sees the group perform live on stage (although "U Got the Look" is represented by its promotional music video).
