Kate Bush: 1985 and All That

Following the disappointing sales of Kate Bush's fourth album, The Dreaming in 1982, she told the press, I finished my last album, did the promotion, then found myself in a kind of limbo. In the summer of 1983, she built her own 48-track studio in the grounds of her family home, which she could use at any time she liked, without being concerned about the cost Kate Bush began recording demos for Hounds of Love in January 1984. After five months, she began overdubbing and mixing the album in a process that took a year. The album was produced as two suites - side one being Hounds of Love and side two a seven-track concept piece, The Ninth Wave. The Hounds Of Love remains not just a masterpiece for the cognoscenti, but a truly classic album, one of the finest of the decade, and for many, among the best of all time. This documentary film puts the record under the microscope.

Mouss et Hakim, controled origins

This film will tell the story of a tour of France undertaken by two children of "controlled origin"—as Mouss and Hakim wryly put it. For us, the reference to the century-old schoolbook Le Tour de la France par deux enfants by Augustine Fouillée is far more than a mere nod; published in the wake of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870, this reader was a fiercely patriotic manual designed to shape the education and morals of young French children. Written under the pseudonym "G. Bruno," the book recounted the journey of two children, André and Julien Volden, who—following the Prussian annexation of Alsace-Lorraine and the death of their father—set out to find their uncle across France’s beautiful provinces. The book was steeped in nationalism and a martial spirit, instilling the values ​​of the Third Republic—equality and citizenship—with a heavy hand, ensuring that no one dared to stand out from the crowd.

Kabylie : au cœur de la révolte

KARO

Karolina Kuras is a Toronto-based ballet and portrait photographer. In this piece, we explore her creative collaboration with Canadian National Ballet dancer/choreographer Brent Parolin and Tanya Howard, as well as make-up artist Ashley Readings. We wanted to encapsulate the essence rather than the information. There are many pieces where Karolina is featured as a photographer discussing her work, but we wanted to get underneath the surface, into the intangible matters that drive and inspire her to create and collaborate so intimately. This project was captured on 35mm film, with a small crew in Karolina’s home studio.

Mea Culpa

Lies and guilt are at the core of Patrick’s relationship with his mother Randa. Over the years, he has collected their audio messages and video calls, transforming them into a portrait of her life in Lebanon and his own in Belgium. This very intimate yet social piece reveals a complex relationship marked by the distance between the two characters and shows what one may experience as a homosexual migrant. By turns moving, provocative, and hilarious, Mea Culpa questions the links between national and sexual identities for a young Palestinian migrant.
