Amata is about two lives that graze one another without meeting, connected by invisible threads and choices that can change a person’s fate. Three screens display how the day’s light passes by: from the early morning light until late at night. Along with the woman the artist walks through the forest, in the same rhythm, the same pace. Off-screen she looks through the camera, fragmenting time. The age-old androgynous trees are a vertical constant along which the woman moves, as if in an interval between visibility and invisibility, between sound and silence, while the light keeps on evolving metabletically.

Deadly Strike

The new police chief (Bruce Li) arrives in a small provincial town. He's been charged with bringing a dangerous gang to justice. But within seconds, the chief provokes a showdown with his lazy deputies. Realizing that they are not up to the job, he enlists the help of some of his prisoners, offering pardons to those who survive the encounter with the gang. These include a widower (Wang Yung Sheng), imprisoned for killing the men who murdered his wife, a knife-throwing expert (Lung Fei) also doing time for the murder of a corrupt magistrate, a pickpocket, and a young orphan girl out to avenge her parents' death. The chief reveals his coldblooded dedication to the mission when he hangs one prisoner for trying to escape. The group - both prisoners and police - ultimately bond together and track down the gang's headquarters to find the leader (Chen Hsing). After a long and bloody melee, everyone lies dead except the chief.

This film was made by hand with materials 16mm blank film (100m), transparent silicon, and blue pigment (Prussian-Paris blue), without a camera. There are 14,000 continuous blue pictures in this film without cuts. The reality of this work is the continuity of emotion and feeling expressed by the colour blue - a highly spiritual colour, Harada shows its emotional significance. The deeper it is, he shows, the more it awakens a desire for the eternal. You can see it dotted poignantly about in this film, sometimes as part of a far-off backdrop, and often as the outline of a mysterious mountain settlement.
