John Adams: The Gospel According to the Other Mary

Sir Simon Rattle, the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Rundfunkchor Berlin give an impeccable performance of the powerful biblical oratorio “The Gospel According to the Other Mary” by John Adams, one of the most renowned contemporary composers. The sophisticated score with a libretto by acclaimed theatre director Peter Sellars comes to life thanks to the Berliner Philharmoniker, whose intimate knowledge of Adams’s music stems from the composer himself: He attended the orchestra’s rehearsals. In the role of the Evangelist, Bubeck, Cummings and Medley lead through the narrative. A stunning highlight is Lazarus’s aria, sung by tenor Peter Hoare. But at the heart of the piece are Mary Magdalene and her sister Martha during the last days before Jesus’s death, impressively performed by mezzo-sopranos Kelley O’Connor and Tamara Mumford.

Waldbühne 2011: Fellini, Jazz & Co

The Waldbühne in Berlin, one of the most appealing outdoor amphitheatres on the European continent, is the home of the Berliner Philharmoniker’s summer concerts. We meet the young violinist Erik Smith in the lap of his family with his wife Lise and his little daughter Lone. Erik is a young, aspiring musician who dreams of one day making a career as an interpreter of the great masters of music. At a concert where a well-known solo violinist has to interrupt, Erik Smith suddenly jumps in and gets his big breakthrough.

CODA

This short animation draws on advanced digital technologies to offer a new vision of dance in cinema. With motion capture (MoCap) and particle processing, designers Denis Poulin and Martine Époque create virtual dancers free of their morphological appearance. In this balletic and hypnotic film, dynamic traces carry the motion of the real dancers behind the on-screen movements. Addressing environmental themes by way of metaphor, CODA is a fused universe where space and time collide, deploy, and dissolve. In this technically and formally innovative film, luminous bodies in the infinite space of the cosmos transform and evolve to the rhythms of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring.

Moravská filharmonie Olomouc s Michaelou Fukačovou a Janem Mráčkem

In October 2022, the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra Olomouc welcomed violinist Jan Mráček and cellist Michaela Fukačová to its concerts. Both artists will join forces in Johannes Brahms' unique, mature work, the "Concerto for Violin and Cello in A minor“, conducted by Jakub Klecker. The program opened with Antonín Dvořák's symphonic poem "Polednice," which is part of his tetralogy of symphonic poems based on motifs from Karel Jaromír Erben's collection "Kytice," written in 1896 after Dvořák's return from the United States, followed by a work by the world-renowned Georgian composer Giya Kancheli from 2015 entitled "Nu.Mu.Zu", which means "I don't know" in ancient Sumerian. The highlight of the evening was Johannes Brahms' "Concerto for Violin and Cello in A minor" from 1887.

Carmina Burana - Carl Orff in Venedig

The Choir and Orchestra of the La Fenice Theatre, conducted by Fabio Luisi, take over Piazza San Marco in Venice for a grandiose concert. Facing the basilica, the musicians perform the famous cantata "Carmina burana", twenty-four medieval poems set to music by Carl Orff between 1935 and 1936.

With this performance of the Missa solemnis Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Honorary Guest Conductor of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, once more attained the status of a living legend, due mostly to his wide-ranging expertise of music from the Baroque and Classical era. The highly acclaimed soloists are Marlis Petersen (Soprano), twice the singer of the year by the renowned Opernwelt magazine, Elisabeth Kulman (Alto), Werner Güra (Tenor), winner of the BBC Music Magazine Award for the best vocal performance, and Gerald Finley (Bass), Grammy-Awardwinner for the best opera recording. Hans Zimmer: Live in Prague

Hans Zimmer is one of the most successful film music composers working today. His multi-award winning career reaches back to the mid-eighties and he has developed close working relationships with renowned directors such as Ridley Scott, Tony Scott, Michael Bay, Ron Howard, Gore Verbinski and Christopher Nolan. His credits include some of the biggest blockbuster movies of all time along with acclaimed TV series such as The Crown and Planet Earth II. This concert was filmed on 7th May 2016 in Prague during Hans Zimmer’s hugely successful European concert tour. Hans was accompanied by a band, orchestra and choir, 72 musicians in total, including guitarist Johnny Marr. The staging was spectacular with a ground breaking light show, stunning visuals and a state of the art sound system. Hans Zimmer performs on multiple instruments and gives introductory insights to many of the pieces during the concert. This show is a treat for lovers of both great music and great movies.
